Maximize Your Performance

Hydration is a crucial component to both athletic and mental performance.
Evan Plews is a professional mountain biker and reigning 2011 US National Champion. He contacted us because he was searching for a way to rebuild after a few injuries and sickness and because he was having a hard time recovering from his races. He added natural alkaline water to his regimen and is off to his best start ever this 2012 season. He loved our simple approach and natural process. We love that he's winning and getting the next level in his performance." Click here to see Evan's story.
Mickey is an ultra endurance athlete who was having problems with cramping, recovery and hydration. He was gracious enough to provide a lengthy interview on what he's noticed after dropping Gatorade for natural alkaline water. When your body is as finely tuned as his, you notice a lot. All of us, whether we are high caliber athletes or a someone who just tries to jog a few miles each week are stuck with the same limitations.
Fatigue, acid buildup and oxygen...
Mental and physical performance is degraded by as much as 10% with just a 2% decrease in hydration. National institute of health.
Mentally, we lose focus, short term memory and the ability to concentrate if we’re the least bit thirsty. All of the critical connections and electrical impulses that drive our brain take place in water. So when the water begins to dry up, a mental fog rolls in.
Physically, the process our body uses to convert nutrients to energy is done through cellular power plants called mitochondria, there are about 2500 of them per cell. As our exercise increases, so does the number of mitochondria. This results in our ability to run farther and lift more over time.
This process of creating energy also results in acid waste. We feel it the morning after we overdo it, we also feel it at the end of the workout as fatigue sets in. Fatigue happens when acids builds up in the muscles, limits how well oxygen is utilized, which then causes the power plants to begin shutting down. They need oxygen to burn the fuel.
How Much Water Should We Drink?
Take your weight and divide it by 2. That’s how many ounces of water you should drink as a minimum each day.
So how does our alkaline water help? In several ways:
First, the hydration capability of natural alkaline water supersedes even the most marketed sports drinks. Staying hydrated helps with preparation and recovery. It’s also vital for long duration physical activities. Our water is light, non-filling and quickly absorbed. You can feel a difference immediately.
Second, it’s also alkaline. Rich in minerals that can quickly counteract the acid build up that occurs during and after a hard workout. Less acid build up means a longer sustained performance, less stiffness and a faster recovery. The more alkaline a system is, the more oxygen it can contain. By improving the overall pH of our body, we can increase not only how well we utilize oxygen, but how much oxygen we have in our body.
Minerals are also often known as electrolytes. If you’ve ever seen a sports drink commercial, you know how important they are. They provide the correct solution for all mental processes and are vital for maintaining the correct cellular hydration levels. Water without minerals is like a salad without vegetables.
Lastly, exercise is an oxidant creating activity. During rest, 3% of all the oxygen we breath becomes a free radical which as research has shown, degrades and breaks down our body. During athletic performance, it can become as high as 20%. The more we breathe, the more free radicals we have scavenging inside of us. Which means we need to increase the amount of antioxidants we consume to balance the damage.
Our alkaline water is an easy way to improve both mentally and physically. We just wish we had it when we were in school.
